Himtrust Fast-Drying PU Primer-Enamel

The two-component polyurethane primer-enamel is used as an anticorrosive primer and decorative enamel for painting metal surfaces (black, galvanized, steel, and aluminum).

It is utilized in machine-building, shipbuilding, bridge construction, industrial and civil construction, oil and gas, chemical industries, housing and communal services, and agriculture.

Product Description:

Base (Component A) — a mixture of anticorrosive pigments and special additives in hydroxyl-containing acrylic resin.

Hardener (Component B) — aliphatic isocyanate.

The primer-enamel is characterized by a high drying speed of the coating, strength, elasticity, and resistance to mechanical stress, exposure to water, salts, and oils.

The coating is weather-resistant, immune to direct sunlight, temperature changes from minus 50°C to plus 60°C, and can withstand short-term heating up to plus 140°C.

Hygienic Characteristics

The paint in liquid form causes irritation when it comes into contact with the skin or eyes and can trigger an allergic reaction.

Once dry, the coating does not have a negative impact on the human body or the environment.

Preparation for Work:

Surface Preparation Requirements

Clean the surface from old coating residues, rust, dirt, dust, traces of grease, and other contaminants to degree 2 according to GOST 9.402.

Degrease the surface to degree 1 according to GOST 9.402.

Perform the painting no later than 6 hours after surface preparation.

Product Preparation Requirements Before starting work:

Allow the primer-enamel and the equipment for its application to stand for a day at an air temperature of +15°C to +30°C.

Stir component A to form a uniform mass for 5 minutes using a mixer with a spiral attachment (ZUBR MR-1400-21 or similar), at a speed of 300-450 rpm.

Add component B to component A in the recommended ratio and mix to obtain a homogeneous mass. Close the container and let it stand for 20 minutes to remove air bubbles from the mixture.

Application Conditions Requirements

Air temperature from +5°C to +30°C.

Substrate temperature from +5°C to +30°C and 3°C above the dew point.

Relative air humidity less than 80%.

Primer-enamel application is allowed at temperatures below 5°C and above 30°C. Consider the change in the viscosity of the components, drying time of the coating, taking into account the temperature dependence of the material hardening reaction (see Table 4).

Safety Measures:

Do not work near open sources of fire. When working with polyurethane primer-enamel in a closed space, ensure ventilation and have fire extinguishing means available. Use personal protective equipment: special clothing, gloves, footwear, protective glasses, and a respirator.

In case of contact with skin, remove the product with a cotton swab or cloth, then rinse with warm soapy water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs.

Rules of Processing/Application

Apply the primer-enamel:
  • Airless spraying (spray gun similar to HYVEST 7300);

  • Pneumatic spraying (spray gun similar to FUBAG BASIC S1000/1.8 HP);

  • Manually using a brush or roller.

Parameter

Value

Recommended thinner xylene, toluene
Airless Spraying
Amount of thinner up to 5%
Working pressure 12–16 MPa (120–160 bar)
Nozzle diameter 0.011–0.017 inches (0.28–0.43 mm)
Spraying angle 20–60°
Pneumatic Spraying
Amount of thinner up to 10%
Working pressure 0.2–0.4 MPa (2–4 bar)
Nozzle size 1.5–2.0 mm

Apply in 2–3 layers, considering the drying time between layers.

Total thickness of the finished coating should not exceed 120 µm. Control the thickness of the finished coating using a thickness gauge like Konstanta K5.

Table 4. Dependence of Interlayer Drying Time on Temperature

Air Temperature During Application Drying Time for Single Layer Application
−10°C no more than 6 h
+5°C no more than 3 h
+10°C no more than 1 h
+20°C no more than 30 min
+40°C no more than 20 min

Problems and Their Solutions

Problem: The base of the primer-enamel (component A) delaminates during prolonged storage.
Solution: Stir component A to form a uniform mass for 5 minutes using a mixer with a spiral attachment (like ZUBR MR-1400-21 or similar), at a speed of 300-450 rpm.

Problem: Poor fan pattern opening during spraying due to high viscosity.
Solution: Heat the paint to a temperature of +15°C to +30°C by keeping it for a day in a heated room or dilute it with xylene/toluene (see Table 3). If the fan pattern opening is still insufficient after diluting the paint, adjust the working pressure of the device or the nozzle diameter.

Transportation and Storage Conditions

The primer-enamel is transported by all types of transport in closed vehicles in accordance with the rules for cargo transportation that ensure the preservation of the containers without damage and leaks.

Storage temperature for components: from 0°C to +30°C.

Transportation temperature for components: from −10°C to +30°C.

Shelf life under the recommended conditions without opening the container: 18 months from the date of manufacture.
