Himtrast Primer-VM (2K)

Epoxy two-component primer for concrete, metal, wooden surfaces, rubberoid, and polyurethane coatings. Used for preparing surfaces before applying protective coatings of polyurea «Himtrast PM manual application 1K» and water-based mastic «Himtrast water-based waterproofing mastic.»

Packaging for Primer-VM 2K:
Component A — 10 kg.
Component B — 3 kg.

Product Description

Component A is a mixture of epoxy resins, fillers, and functional additives.
Component B is an aliphatic amine.

The primer penetrates the base, sealing pores and dustproofing the surface. It cures through the reaction of the mixed components, forming a polymeric material after curing. This material strengthens the base and enhances adhesion of polyurea, polyurethane, and acrylic sealant to the substrate.

Features of Primer-VM 2K:

  • Forms a smooth, seamless coating.
  • Suitable for bases of any shape and size.
  • Can be applied over existing coatings without their removal.
  • Fills irregularities in the substrate, smoothes, and strengthens the surface.

Hygienic Characteristics

When in contact with the skin, it causes irritation, may trigger an allergic reaction, and chemical burns.

When in contact with the eyes, it causes pronounced irritation and may lead to chemical burns.

Cured primer does not have a negative impact on human health and the environment.

Preparation for Work

Requirements for Product Preparation

Before starting work, the primer components should reach the ambient temperature. Mix components A and B in the recommended ratio using a manual mixer for construction mixtures, at a rotation speed of 500 rpm for 5 minutes. Pay special attention to the bottom and walls of the container.

Requirements for Application Conditions

Air and substrate temperature: +15°C to +25°C.

The substrate temperature should be 3°C above the dew point.

At temperatures above 25°C, the primer curing time is reduced. At temperatures below 15°C, the primer curing time increases.

Surface Preparation Requirements

Concrete and other mineral substrates:
Clean the surface from contaminants, dust, construction debris, and oils. Dry it thoroughly. Level the surface, remove protrusions, weak parts of the base, and fill cracks with a suitable base composition.

Metal:
For preparing the metal substrate, perform manual abrasive treatment using sandpaper or a grinding tool. After abrasive treatment, clean the surface, degrease it with a solvent, and let it dry.

Rubberoid:
Clean the surface from contaminants, dust, construction debris, and oils. Dry it thoroughly. Remove protrusions and weak elements of the base. Fill in cavities, cracks, and other coating damage with a suitable base composition.

Polyurethane:
It is permissible to apply it to polyurethane foam (PUF) with a density of at least 40 kg/m 3, for example, obtained from the Himtrast SKN-40 G3 component system. PUF, after spraying, should be kept for 3 hours to complete polymerization reactions, cooling, and the removal of volatile components.

Safety Measures

When performing work indoors, ensure ventilation and have fire-fighting equipment available.

Use personal protective equipment: special clothing, gloves, footwear, protective goggles, and a respirator.

In case of contact with the skin, remove the product with a cotton pad or cloth, then wash the skin with warm soapy water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.

In case of contact with the eyes, rinse with a large amount of water. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs.

Application Method

After mixing, pour the primer onto the substrate in the form of uniform strips to prevent premature setting. Then, spread the primer evenly without gaps using a brush, nylon or fur roller with short bristles, a rubber squeegee, or a spatula.

After application, allow the coating to stand for 24 hours until it fully cures.

A properly primed substrate should have a uniform, slightly glossy surface.

After completing the work, clean tools and equipment with a solvent (acetone, naphtha, xylene, toluene). Remove cured primer from tools and equipment mechanically (metal brush, spatula).

Problems and Solutions

Problem:

Premature curing of the primer

Solution:

Check the temperature of the components before mixing. The temperature should not exceed 25°C. Do not exceed the mixing time of the components. After mixing, do not leave the product in the bucket.

Problem:

The primer coating contains unhardened sticky areas (Покрытие из праймера содержит неотвержденные липкие участки)

Solution:

The possible cause may be insufficient mixing at the walls and bottom of the bucket. Mechanically remove the unstable areas of the coating, remix the necessary amount of primer, and thoroughly mix it at the walls and bottom of the bucket. Pour the primer into the defective areas and level it with a brush, roller, or spatula.

Transport and Storage Conditions

The primer components are transported using all modes of transportation, in enclosed transport vehicles, at temperatures ranging from +5°C to +25°C, in accordance with the cargo transportation rules applicable to each mode of transport, ensuring the integrity of the packaging, its reliable fixation to prevent damage and leaks.

They are stored in enclosed warehouse facilities in closed original packaging under conditions that exclude moisture and direct sunlight.

Storage temperature: from +5°C to +25°C.

The warranty storage period, when recommended conditions are observed, is 6 months from the date of production.

Upon expiration of the storage period, the primer components are subject to inspection for compliance with technical specifications and, if their suitability is confirmed, they may be used as intended.
